Triumph Fitness Video Diary Tips

Thank you for your interest in making self-video-diaries!  It’s really fun and easy, and the cumulative results are amazing! (See Marshall’s, Chad’s, Adele’s, and Leeda’s Diaries) These are a few tips and pointers to help you along your journey:

Triumph Fitness is 12 weeks long.  We don’t expect a video every day!  Once a week, before or after a workout, is plenty.  If you capture additional footage about something you are now able to do thanks to Triumph Fitness, great!

For optimum footage, place your cell phone on a stack of books, or tripod in the horizontal position, or have someone hold the camera who has steady hands.  Turn off any music, fans, or “white noise makers” and speak clearly and slightly louder than you usually speak, so the microphone in your cell phone picks you up cleanly.  Don’t worry if the footage isn’t perfect, or if you “messed up” a little.  We can edit around minor mistakes and stutters.  Remember we want to see the “real experience” not actors in a TV show.  It’s OK to cry, laugh, show anger–all the emotions that you are going through in real time show a genuine experience about which other Survivors will relate.

Having trouble getting started?  Here are some topics:

Week 1:  What are your expectations for Triumph Fitness?  What did Cancer take from you that you want back?  What do you wish people would understand about your situation?

Week 2:  What was it like to start working with your instructor?  How do they make you feel?

Week 3:  How is the pacing of the program?  Which part of the workout do you like best?

Week 4:  What “little” improvements or successes have you had?  How is your balance?  Your strength?

Week 5:  Are your classmates supportive? What do you like best about them?

Week 6:   Half-way through!  Have your friends/relatives noticed anything different?  (Maybe video a friend/family member talking about your progress from a third-party perspective)

Week 7:  What are your favorite exercises and why?

Week 8:  Have you had any setbacks?

Week 9:  How is your confidence?  What improvements have you felt in your body?

Week 10:  How has the experience been working out with a group of cancer survivors?

Week 11:  What is your plan of attack for fitness in the future after Triumph Fitness ends?

Week 12:  Time to reflect!  How does it feel now that you are graduating?

Request:  Please be sure to say “Triumph Fitness” during some of your videos and we’d love it if you’d acknowledge our nonprofit, Triumph Cancer Foundation.
