What an amazing night at Cancer is a Drag! We are so proud of this wonderful event that enabled us to get important messaging out to the community about the growing need for diverse and inclusive healthcare access for LGBTQ+ cancer survivors.
Our celebratory evening included a live Drag and Fashion Show with outfits donated by Macy’s Roseville Galleria location. It was a fun-filled event that opened with a Champagne Reception, included heartfelt speeches, an entertaining Live Auction, and dancing to close out the night.
We also held a special Triumph Fund A Need where guests had the opportunity to make pledges to directly support Triumph Cancer Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of those who pledged, Triumph will be able to purchase Triumph-on-the-Go exercise kits for two ENTIRE trimesters of Triumph Fitness!
We are grateful that Macy’s Roseville Galleria was so generous in donating thousands of dresses to Triumph Cancer Foundation when the pandemic hit in 2020, which has raised thousands of dollars for Triumph during very challenging times. For Cancer is a Drag, not only will dresses be used in our Drag & Fashion Show, but we have a special way that our attendees can “pay it forward” which will create a wonderful ripple effect in our community with the 1,200 remaining brand new dresses! First, ticket buyers receive a dress voucher with their ticket entry to either redeem at our Dress Warehouse Sale after the event, or they may bestow their voucher upon one of our worthy selected Dress Recipient Organizations. Second, attendees of Cancer is a Drag will have the opportunity to make pledges for dresses during the event as well during our Triumph Fund A Need. These pledges will have double the impact with the donation dollars being used by Triumph to increase capacity building to help more cancer survivors in underserved communities like our Rainbow Community. And the dresses themselves will be donated to one of our five selected organizations in the Sacramento community! We have selected the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s Q-Prom, WEAVE, Grant Union High School Special Activities Department, the Hispanic Chamber, and Cinderella’s Closet to receive dresses after our Dress Warehouse Sale.
So many lives will be impacted by the Cancer is a Drag event in a beautiful way!

So Many Ways to Support!
Ticket buyers will each receive 1 dress token that can be redeemed at our Warehouse Dress Sale after Cancer is a Drag for personal use OR the token can be dropped into one of our 5 Dress Recipient Organization boxes at the event. We’ll be distributing donated dresses to our selected organizations in mid May.
Want to support on a higher level but can’t attend Cancer is a Drag? Check out our Corporate Sponsor package for our special Dress Angel sponsor level that enables you to pledge dollars for dresses and select the organization to receive those dresses ahead of time.
OR at Cancer is a Drag, guests will be invited to participate in a fun Triumph Dress Pledge Drive with our auctioneer! All donations pledged will go towards helping Triumph provide cancer exercise recovery programs to local cancer survivors and our campaign to specifically reach more underserved communities through special workshops we are planning. Your pledge will do double duty with your funding dollars also delivering dresses to our selected dress recipient organizations! For example – pledge $125 and not only will you fund one of our Triumph on-the-Go exercise kits provided to each new survivor participating in Triumph Fitness, but 2 more dresses will be donated to one of the 5 designated recipient organizations in our community!
Studies from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) illustrate growing evidence that LGBTQ+ populations have less access to healthcare and higher burdens of certain diseases, such as cancer. NIMHD also reports that stigmatization, hate-violence, and discrimination are still major barriers to the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals. Our goal is to raise funds to support both Triumph Cancer Foundation and Sacramento Rainbow Chamber, while also raising awareness about the importance of exercise for cancer survivors.
Funds raised through Cancer is A Drag will be used to support both Triumph Cancer Foundation and Sacramento Rainbow Chamber. Triumph Cancer Foundation will use the funds to expand services in a few ways to support our local LGBTQ+ community. First, with capacity building to offer more Triumph Fitness classes to adult cancer survivors at no cost. And second, to develop a special workshop series and educational fitness booklet to be distributed to members of the LGBTQ+ community – and other underserved groups in our region. With this in mind, Triumph plans to continue a collaboration with the Rainbow Chamber to broaden existing programs and reach more people (who otherwise may not have access to Triumph); helping them to get started with an exercise routine that is safe and effective after treatment.
