On October 17th 2020, Triumph Fitness celebrated its 15 year anniversary! While 2020, has been a challenging year for all of us, this is definitely a milestone worth marking. For 15 years, Triumph Fitness has been a part of our community, helping adult cancer survivors recover from treatment. Since its inception, Triumph Fitness has graduated over 1,200 survivors.
The advent of the pandemic meant changes needed to be made to our signature program. The team at Triumph Cancer Foundation successfully developed a new virtual 12-week program that is available for survivors and still offers the same guidance from our certified cancer exercise specialists and the opportunity to exercise with fellow cancer survivors. The big difference is that participants are exercising in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Triumph even provides a basic Triumph on the Go exercise kit with basic equipment to insure that each survivor is ready to go on Day One.
Our Founder Pam Whitehead made a pledge back in 2005 to offer Triumph Fitness to survivors at no cost. As a survivor herself, she understood the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis and didn’t want cost to be a hindrance in a survivor’s ability to participate in the program. Thanks to generous donors, sponsors and partners over the years, Triumph Cancer Foundation has been able to uphold this pledge. But the pandemic has brought hardships to the nonprofit world, including Triumph, with fundraising events being postponed or cancelled, and increased costs. Triumph has had significant expenses due to the reformatting of programs and purchasing of exercise equipment for each participant.
Triumph Cancer Foundation is the only nonprofit organization in the Sacramento metro area providing exercise-focused recovery programs to cancer survivors. To continue offering their services, Triumph is in need of an infusion of donations to purchase more equipment for the Winter classes which commence in just a few months.
With the onset of COVID-19, Triumph Cancer Foundation has been required to pivot quickly on the delivery of our signature program, Triumph Fitness. The health and well-being of our participants, coupled with our ethical responsibility to mitigate the spread of germs, has led Triumph Cancer Foundation to look ahead and shift our program model to accommodate a protective, healthy, germ-free atmosphere outside of a “traditional” gym environment. We have been in collaboration with partners and experts to create a future experience that enables participants to exercise in private studios, outdoors, or in the comfort of their own homes. Although this is the best solution to minimize exposure to germs, we will no longer have access to fitness equipment in a “gym” setting and will now require additional funding to provide proper equipment for each participant. “Triumph on the Go” exercise kits (including necessary items such as weights, bands, yoga mat, etc.) will be provided to all participants to allow for the healthiest environment, enabling participants to continue their exercise regimen when they graduate from the 12-week program. Triumph on the Go exercise kits will cost approximately $125 per person. This is an additional unexpected cost for our small Foundation.
We are asking for your help in securing the funding needed to purchase and assemble the equipment needed to create 180 of these new Triumph On the Go bags. All donations are greatly appreciated!
By making a donation to Triumph, not only are you supporting someone you know who is currently enrolled in Triumph Fitness, but you are opening up the world of Triumph to another cancer survivor who needs our help.
Over the span of 12 weeks, participants slowly rebuild their strength, stamina and confidence in a safe haven with their fellow peers. After graduation, we offer continuing exercise-focused programs to participants. Triumph Fitness is offered at no cost to the participant, thanks to the generosity of private donors and corporate sponsorships and partners.
Our current Triumph Fitness participants are asking for your help in supporting Triumph, so that another survivor, just like them, might have the opportunity to enroll in Triumph Fitness. While our Foundation offers Triumph Fitness at no charge, it costs our Foundation $1,500 per participant for the 12-week program.
